    Who am I?

    I come from a beautiful city in Mexico called Guadalajara. The city is crowded with huge trees, so there is always

some cool shade. I moved to the US when I was 8 years old, making me work hard to keep my Mexican identity.

Hailing from a family that has never been to school in the US, I feel very proud to be a first-generation university

student.

    Firstly, in the near future I will have figured out and pinpointed the exact sector of the finance industry and the

companies I would like to work for. I plan to get there by being consistent and checking up on my goals on a monthly

basis. Once at my destination, I hope to have a position in a company where I am making a difference and am seeing

real-world results.

    I am like my parents in the way that they are hardworking and ambitious. My parents have also taught me the

importance of being connected to family and friends. I am unlike my parents in that I would like to believe I am aware

of my flaws and make it a goal of mine to be my best self at all times. 

    I have developed my own expectations of myself and have set standards for how I want to portray myself; now that I

am living alone for the first time; it is up to me to make good decisions. However, I tend to put a lot of pressure on

myself. Moving forward, I try to remind myself that rest is important.

    My friend Ryan is someone who I admire greatly. He goes to UCSB, but I played water polo with him in high school

I admire Ryan because he treats his friends like his family, which similarly aligns with my value that one must love

their family unconditionally. Ryan also has a very whimsical outlook on life, always cracking jokes and making the

people around him laugh and feel welcome. 

    Something that makes me see red is people putting others down. I deeply value each individual and believe

everyone should have equal opportunities to pursue whatever their heart desires. To see people belittle others' ideas

is an act of intolerance toward diverse thought.

    I feel a special connection to anteaters because they are excellent freestyle swimmers, and they also use their

snout as a snorkel, which is an activity I did this summer in Hawai'i.

    When I was younger, I remember trying to climb a specific tree at my grandparents' home in Mexico. I was

never able to climb it, and I haven't tried since. Maybe next time I go visit them I will climb it to prove how far

I've come.

    Hi Rodrigo, I enjoyed getting to know more about you. You've accomplished so much by being a first-generation college student, and it really shows your hard work. I also believe in your tree climbing abilities and hope you go do that.

    Hey Rodrigo, was nice getting to know more about you. A few pieces of your writing really stood out to me. I hope you're able to find a niche within finance that speaks to you! I also hope you share this blog with your friend Ryan. You said such kind words about him and I'm sure it would mean a lot to him to see what you wrote, he sounds like a great friend. Sidenote- I had no idea Anteaters could swim, let alone use their nose like a snorkel! That part of your blog put a smile on my face.

    I really liked your blog post, it gave me a better sense of who you are. Congratulations on becoming a first-generation university student. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to come from a foreign country and be the first person in your family to go to a university, let alone USC. I wish you the best of luck in your journey at USC and within the finance industry.

    Woah! Aneteaters is not the animal I was expecting, I didn't know they used their nose as a snorkle that's actually super awesome. I hope you're able to pinpoint what area of the finance industry you're interested in, but even if you don't figure it out right out of college, you'll have plenty of time! I think it's the sort of place where you'll be able to bounce around as you gain experience, so keep going! I'm excited to have class with you and hope you find time to remember that rest is important.

    Living by yourself for the first time can be challenging, but I like that your mindset is centered around making good decisions. You will be just fine with that mindset! Keep up the great work!

Lifeguard Lifeguarding has been the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. As a young person, it is a job where you get to enjoy the hot California sun by the pool. Though at times the job can get very tough and demanding on the body. I would say the job is easy 9 months out of the year. Unfortunately for the months of June, July and August I cannot say the same. Though the days were hot, you do get a lot of time to be in the pool while monitoring the patron’s safety. While you are on tower monitoring patrons, you have a lot of time to speak to the customers. I really enjoyed getting involved in the swimming community at my local pool.     A lifeguard is someone whose main job is to prevent emergencies. Although a lifeguard is pretty much the first responder when there is an emergency (although not considered a professional first responder), our job is to make sure patrons are making smart decisions that do not put their safety at risk.
